excerpt:
The California Gambling Control/ Intrastate Online Poker Legalization Act (AB 2026, authored by Assemblyman Lloyd Levine, D-Van Nuys) passed another historic legislative milestone on May 29 as the bill advanced from the Assembly floor to the State Senate for action. Within the next week, the Senate Rules Committee will assign the bill to the appropriate Committee in the upper house for consideration.
Poker Voters of America President Jim Tabilio said his organization was extremely pleased with the progress of the bill. “It’s never easy to move a bill through the deliberative process of the legislature,” said Tabilio, “And legalization of online poker in a state like California presents special challenges. But we are happy that we’ve been able to work with Assemblyman Levine to answer questions from legislators and regulators so we can deal with concerns they may have.”
Tabilio said Poker Voters, in its role as citizen sponsor of AB 2026, continues to talk with a broad range of potential stakeholders in order to create a comprehensive, economically viable and politically acceptable approach to legalization of intrastate online poker in California.
