Hello fellow poker players and PPA members

On May 7, 2008 the first meeting of the PPA's Litigation Support "Team" took place at the offices of the PPA in Washington, DC. Attending were John Pappas (PPA Executive Director), Myself (Patrick "Skallagrim' Fleming, PPA Litigation Support Director), my fellow attorneys Tom Goldstein and Ken Adams, both of Washington, Andrew Woods (another attorney and Director of the Global Poker Strategic Thinking Society at Harvard Law), and Poker Professionals and authors Howard Lederer, Andy Block, Chris Ferguson, and William Chen. Also present was Mr. Lederer's wife Suzie. Everyone present contributed substantially and the meeting was, IMHO, extremely productive.

Pictures of most of us can be found at TheEngineer's Legislative Forum thread "DC trip report" which were taken the night before at the Bad Beat for Cancer Charity Poker Tournament. One of our group, Tom Goldstein, was the winner of that event! A good time was had by all and put us all in a good frame of mind for the next day's meeting. My only regret was that TheEngineer's work schedule prevented him from attending too.

Most of the actual discussion at the meeting was spent examining exactly how we will present the "poker is mostly skill" argument in court, and what aspects of that argument we need to shore up. I think the general consensus as that we are only one expert away from being ready to start preparing for actual court testimony. And preparations will be underway to fill that gap soon.

We also discussed mapping out an overall litigation strategy - much here is still being worked on, and much cant be disclosed yet (never reveal your plans to the opposition in advance is a fundamental legal principle). But I expect our members will be happy with what is forthcoming.

The one thing I can reveal so far is that we will be producing a Poker Litigation Strategy Guide exclusive to our members and their legal advisers. I expect this to be finalized over the next month or two.

My true thanks to all who attended this meeting. As TheEngineer has mentioned elsewhere, establishing once and for all that (please repeat this at least 3x a day) "Poker is a Game of Mostly Skill" helps our cause tremendously in both the legal and the political arena. Any thoughts and comments that help advance this subject are greatly appreciated.
