Any plans to get the Congress list started? At least on my computer it shows up empty. I know in GA, my Sen. Chambliss and Rep. Linder are both against us (I received negative replies from them). I received no reply from Sen. Isakson, nor from the Democratic candidates. I may end up voting Libertarian all the way, but if any Democrats are on our side on this, it may be a good enough reason to vote for them.

Sen. Joe Biden (D-DE) voted against Sen. Jon Kyl’s S 474, Internet Gambling Prohibition Act of 1997, a bill that passed the Senate 90-10. This is positive both because the ticket has someone who's not knee-jerk opposed to us, and because Obama was willing to choose a running mate who is not knee-jerk opposed to us.

I've rated Biden "B", and Obama remains "C". I'll likely rate the ticket B-, but haven't made that decision yet.

The guide is here.

CQ Politics has a nice article on our efforts, at http://www.cqpolitics.com/wmspage.cfm?docid=news-000002939373 . Digg at http://digg.com/2008_us_elections/Poker_Lobby_Wants_New_Deal_From_GOP :

The Republicans’ last two national party platforms opposed Internet gambling. Online poker players want a new deal at this year’s convention next month.

The Poker Players Alliance, which spent $1.2 million lobbying during the first half of 2008, aims to legalize virtual versions of the game now played under the table. Dozens of people listing poker as their profession have contributed $353,802 to federal candidates this election cycle. And the group will sponsor events at both conventions.

But so far the deck has been stacked against the group, which claims 1 million members nationwide — including a few Republicans in their off hours.

“This shouldn’t be a partisan issue. It should be a personal-freedom issue,” said John Pappas, the alliance’s executive director.

The Republican platforms of 2000 and 2004 included the following language: “Millions of Americans suffer from problem or pathological gambling that can destroy families. We support legislation prohibiting gambling over the Internet or in student athletics by student athletes who are participating in competitive sports.”

Welcome to the subforum. I look forward to working with everyone here to stand up for our rights as poker players and as Americans! Please check out my blog at http://theengineer.pokerplayersalliance.org/ .

We’ve been advocating for our right to play poker on the Internet, in card rooms, in casinos, and at kitchen tables with friends for some time now. We’ve had some successes, but we need to keep fighting to win this battle. I urge you to write to Congress today. Fortunately, the Poker Players Alliance has created a tool that allows us to send letters to Congress in only 60 seconds, at http://capwiz.com/pokerplayersalliance/home/ .

Proud to play poker,
