With the re-election of Governor Gregoire, the grinch who signed the anti-poker legislation into law, moving to Idaho might not be a bad idea.

I think the bottom line is that Idaho does not have a specific law prohibiting online poker like Washington state's. The other fact on our side is that there hasn't been a prosecution of a player for playing in a kitchen poker game. Like I said in my other post today we need to get active in Idaho. Let's start a letter writing campaign or an online petition.

How about an update from our two state directors. What's your action plan for the up coming year?

KJ whats going on in your part of the state.

Sorry I didn't get back here before the election. I never received any responses from any of the candidates that would indicate a willingness to consider changing the law. Now that Minnick will be taking office I plan to contact him and I suggest every other Idaho member of PPA do the same. His current contact email is:

info@waltforcongress.org

We should also contact Senator elect Risch:

info@risch4idaho.com

As far as I'm concerned Senator Crapo is a lost cause. He is very anti-gambling and would close every casino in Idaho if he had the chance.

Last of all I think now is the time for Idaho PPA players to get going. If we don't start being proactive we might as well pull up the rocking chairs and play bridge.

b7s, Any news on the campaign front. I would really like to hear that these candidates are in favor of legalizing poker in Idaho. My wife, kids, and I should be moving out there in the next few months.

(Just trying to keep the Idaho PPA news and happenings active.)

Ugh!!! Wendy, I read the "ask Sikallagrim" response and it did not sound good. I am very surprised to find that poker is totally illegal in Idaho. The only silver lining is that if on-line poker is viewed just like live poker, at least it is only a misdemeanor instead of a Class C Felony as in Washington state.

b7's and cnwstuck, thanks for the info. It is looking more and more likely that my wife and I will be moving to Idaho in the next few months, so I'm glad to hear that the internet gambling laws in Idaho are not near as repressive as those in Washington state.

Hi Momoney2, welcome to Coeur d'Alene, ID. I am a 4th generation native so please feel free to contact me anytime :-)
I am going to post your question on "ask Sikallagrim" forum, it is set up specifically for these questions. Patrick "Skallagrim" Fleming is a practicing attorney in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. An avid poker player, PPA State Director, and the PPA's Litigation Support Director, he is providing this forum to answer general legal questions from PPA members on poker laws and litigation, both state and federal.

Idaho does not have a statute like Washington. The casinos in Idaho do not have live poker so your closest choice will be the several poker rooms in Spokane. I play at Northern Quest casino near the airport quite often. Nice poker room.

As far as I know, federal law take precedence, and should be the same for all states. When the feds shut down the banks for US players, some of the sites found ways to get around it. I would assume the sites you are currently playing on, will still work in Idaho. I quit the whole on line thing, don't want to wait forever to get my money.

Good Luck,

KJ, thanks for responding. I am familiar with a few of the local casinos in the Coeur d'Alene and Spokane area. My main question is regarding any statutes in place that may or may not place restrictions on on-line poker. (Northern and Southern Idaho should fall under the same legislation and/or statutes.)
Thanks for any information you can provide,
If you stick with the sites you are currently playing, you should be fine. You can contact Wendy @ cnwstuck@adelphia.net. She is the Idaho co-director for N. Idaho, and might have more current information in regard to that area. I believe there are several casinos in that area.

I live in the Seattle area and play a lot of poker in the local casinos, though I've been taking most of the summer off to spend time with the kids, so I've mostly been playing on-line.
My wife and I are considering moving to Coeur d'Alene, if she can get a transfer from her job. So I would like to know if Idaho State has statutes against on-line poker. Though even if there were, they can not be near as anti-on-line gambling as the Washington State laws.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Hi Brian,
There is a free poker league in the Treasure Valley. While the play at the bar tournaments is okay, you know how it is when people are playing with no risk of losing money. Play tends to be a little loose at times.
Where are you from? I run a game three nights a week and play at other games occassionally. The next time you are planning a trip to Boise you can email me (lovinlife1000@msn.com) or give me a call (208-447-6887). Would be happy to have you at my game or I can tell you about other games going on if it is an off night for me. Feel free to contact me any time.
Great hearing from you.

Hi, my name is KJ. As the new Co-Director representing the PPA in the state of Idaho, just wanted to introduce myself. I live in Meridian, the new hub of the Treasure Valley. I will be working directly with Wendy Nutting who is from the northern part of our great state.
Not only do I play a lot of poker, I actually run a game three nights a week and play occassionaly at other games. Have been playing for 4 1/2 years and my excitement for the game continues to grow. As we all know, you never stop learning. There is always a different way you could have played those bullets.
I am very excited to make a difference for our cause in Idaho, and would love to hear from other members and state directors. Would encourage poker players and PPA members from the southern half of Idaho to contact me via email, and introduce yourself. Of course I would enjoy hearing from members from other states as well. I would welcome the chance to discuss ideas with all current and prospective PPA members. My email address is: lovinlife1000@msn.com.
Thank you for taking the time to read my post. I look forward to hearing from my fellow poker players.

Good Luck and Good Poker,
